Singer and actress Jennifer Lopez is reportedly set to take up the role of a judge on ''American Idol’ by replacing Ellen DeGeneres.

Lopez is close to signing a deal to join Fox TV''s hit singing contest, a person familiar with the negotiations said, reports the New York Daily News.

DeGeneres will leave the Fox talent show immediately, opting out of a four-year contract.

"A couple months ago, I let Fox and the ‘American Idol’ producers know that this didn''t feel like the right fit for me," DeGeneres said in a statement.

The 52-year-old wrote on her Twitter account, "Dim the lights. ... I''ve voted myself off ''American Idol.’”

Tryouts for season 10 of the singing reality show began July 17 in Nashville.

Actress Deepika showcases her talent on ‘India’s Got Talent’

Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone, who is playing a visually challenged girl in the forthcoming film “Lafangey Parindey”, says her character in the film is very strong and doesn’t give up on her talent and receives due recognition from a talent show named “India’s Got Talent” in the film.

Talking about her character in the movie, Deepika said: “Pinky is very clear about one thing – she wants to win in life and she chooses to do this through her talent.

She has the hunger to reach the stars notwithstanding her limitation of being blind. She has what it takes to win at a platform like ‘India’s Got Talent’ and decides to go for it.”

Yash Raj Films’ “Lafangey Parindey”, releasing Aug 20, is the story of a group of youngsters living in the back streets of Mumbai.

It will see actor Neil Nitin Mukesh playing a boxer who fights blindfolded while Deepika will be seen as a visually challenged girl who can dance on skates.

Meanwhile, the second season of “India’s Got Talent” is beginning Friday on Colors channel.

Big B’s unexpected reference in ‘Once Upon…’

Mafia don Haji Mastan’s biopic “Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai”, directed by Milan Luthria, makes a reference to superstar Amitabh Bachchan in a very unexpected way.

When asked about the Bachchan presence in the film, Luthria said: “I don’t know where you heard this. But it’s true. In the course of the film, the girlfriend of Ajay’s character, played by Kangna Ranaut, mentions to him that a film should be made on his life.”

“To this Ajay replies, ‘Now you want me to turn into an actor?’ Kangna then tells Ajay about a young intense actor named Ami who is just right to play Haji Mastan.”

Bachchan played Mastan in Yash Chopra’s “Deewaar”, which was released in 1975. “Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai” is set in the 1970s.

Devgn, who plays Mastan in Milan Luthria’s film, was often compared to Big B when he started his career, even by the superstar’s wife Jaya Bachchan.

Luthria says Big B is not mentioned by name in his film.

“I’d never make any reference to Mr Bachchan that can be considered even remotely disrespectful.

But yes, Kangna refers to him as ‘the young intense actor’,” he says.

Kiran Rao’s ‘Dhobi Ghat’ to be premiered at Toronto fest

‘Dhobi Ghat’, directed and produced by Aamir Khan’s wife Kiran Rao, will have its world premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), organizers announced here Tuesday.

Aamir Khan, who plays the lead role of a painter in his wife’s directorial debut, and Om Puri will also be feature in galas and special presentations at the festival.

Set in Mumbai, ‘Dhobi Ghat’ revolves around four people who are separated by class and language but drawn together in compelling relationships.

Shai, an affluent investment banker on holiday, strikes up an unusual friendship with Munna, a young and beautiful laundry boy with ambitions of being a Bollywood actor, and also has a brief dalliance with Arun.

As they come closer together, their complicated relationship no more remains a secret.

The 35th film festival, which runs from Sep 9 to 19, will have 15 galas and 35 special presentations this year.

Apart from Kiran Rao, films by Robert Redford, Michael Winterbottom, Guillaume Canet, John Cameron Mitchell, Mike Mills and Andrucha Waddington will have their world premiere here.

Top filmmakers like Woody Allen, Sylvain Chomet, Mahamat-Saleh Haroun, Tran Anh Hung, Mike Leigh, Julian Schnabel and Im Sang-Soo will also make their North American premieres here this year.

Dev Anand ready to remake ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’

Raring to go even at 86, Bollywood’s evergreen actor Dev Anand said Wednesday that he was going to remake his 1971 hit “Hare Rama Hare Krishna” very soon.

“I will make another version of ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’ in Nepal very soon. The script is ready.

People want another ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’ I know that,” the ebullient Dev Anand told reporters at the first look of his directorial venture “Chargesheet” at the JW Marriott hotel here.

“If people can make remakes, make biopics, why can’t there be a remake of this film… The film will be made keeping in perspective the present generation,” the actor said, adding that his film was about drugs and hippies and the former was still a factor.

Dev Anand’s last few directorial ventures “Censor” (2001), “Love at Times Square” (2003) and “Mr Prime Minister” (2005) sank without a trace. But the legendary filmmaker is not disheartened.

Produced by Navketan films, “Chargsheet” is a suspense thriller where the 86-year-old star plays a pivotal role.

He has also cast expelled Samajwadi party leader Amar Singh as a home minister in the film.

“He looks like a member of parliament. You can see the dream in his eyes that he can be home minister any day. Anything can happen in politics.”

Amar Singh had given his home in Delhi for the shooting of his film.

Dev Anand also spoke of his classic “Hum Dono”, which is being released in a colour version.

“The film ‘Hum Dono’ has been coloured and it will be out very soon. It looks fantastic, as if it has been shot in colour.”

A.R.Rahman sacrifice Bollywood for international career?

Music composer A.R. Rahman’s international career which has taken off in a biggish way after “Slumdog Millionaire” keeps encountering snags, thanks to long-pending assignments back home.

According to sources, Rahman has to keep interrupting his international plans to be home for various pending assignments.

The harried composer is now seriously thinking of putting all home-made assignments on hold to concentrate on building his career abroad, or else he feels he would lose the international advantage he obtained after “Slumdog Millionaire”.

Says a friend of Rahman: “The Indian assignments after ‘Slumdog Millioniare’ have been very time-consuming, especially ‘Raavan’ where Rahman not only had to do two versions of the music in Hindi and Tamil, but director Mani Ratnam also asked him to give three to four tunes for every lyric before one was selected.

The music of ‘Raavan’ took more time than Rahman could afford, with the result that other Indian assignments primarily Abbas Tyrewala’s untitled John Abraham-Pakhi starrer got left behind.”

With other actresses refusing to take up the weaker role, Priyanka didn’t want the project to be shelved, hence she has decided to do the second female role in Anurag Basu’s ‘Silence’.

Insiders close to the actress stated that Priyanka understood that ‘Silence’ is a very powerful project that cannot be held up.

Priyanka Chopra cried openly in pre-birthday party

Normally Priyanka Chopra, who just turned 28, is not the kind of girl who displays emotions, not even in front of her own family.

But when her parents threw a small pre-birthday party for her, she for the first time cried openly.

It was not the well-organised party where her mother cooked her favourite Punjabi food that made Priyanka emotional.

It was the gift that her parents bought her, a six-carat diamond ring, which made Priyanka bawl like a baby on July 16.

“The minute she saw the gift, Priyanka burst into tears. We were shocked because we had never seen her like that,” says a close friend who was at the get-together.

Apparently Priyanka, whose birthday was July 18, proudly wore the ring to her beach side holiday although her parents warned her she might drop it in the water.

Priyanka’s brother Siddharth, who celebrates his birthday a week before his sister, kept teasing her about hiding the ring before she left.

Incidentally, Priyanka had arranged a surprise birthday party at China House at the Grand Hyatt for her brother.

“It was his 21st birthday and very special. Priyanka looked into every detail personally although she was shooting for “Saat Khoon Maaf”.

Actor Shahrukh to avoiding clash with Big B

Will he, won't he? The speculation continues whether Shahrukh Khan will host the next season of Bigg Boss.

While sources in the channel insist that they are still in talks with King Khan, sources close to the actor insist that he has already turned down the show. Here's presenting the buzz from both the two sides.

Amitabh Bachchan, the original host of Kaun Banega Crorepati, returns to the show after ten years, replacing SRK.

So it's natural for the channel to want Shahrukh to "replace" AB as Bigg Boss host, now that it is clear that Big B isn't doing it anymore.

It is a "swapping" that is bound to hit the headlines and create buzz for both shows. While KBC will be air on Sony, Bigg Boss will be shown on Colors.


Says a TV producer, "It will be interesting to see the Big B and Shahrukh clashing over TRPs as hosts of two different reality TV shows.

A channel source adds, "Currently negotiations are on with SRK and Colors. Of late, SRK has become good friends with Colors' Head of Programming, Ashvini Yardi, so he might just do it.

Khan is being wooed with mega bucks to host the reality show. And he can really push Don 2 for a few months, if he wants.

In any case, if he doesn't want to push back the film, he can travel from wherever he is, to shoot it.

Why is Aishwarya avoiding media? Will Abhishek once again be a gay?

These days Aishwarya is avoiding media. After the deplorable box office result of Raavan, Aishwarya is bit disappointed.

Will Abhishek once again be a gay?

After shooting for three back-to-back action films, actor Abhishek Bachchan is all set to star in the sequels of Dostana and Dhoom. While he will attempt to tickle the funny bones of audiences in "Dostana 2", Dhoom 3 will see him once again team up with co-star Uday Chopra.

"Initially, I was against doing a sequel to Dostana. I couldn't see how Tarun Mansukhani could make it funnier. But he said, 'Let me write the script. You'll be the first person I'd narrate it to. If you don't like it, then I'd throw it away.' Believe me, Dostana 2 would be twice as funny as Dostana," says Abhishek.
About his sequel-to-a-sequel Dhoom 3, he says that Uday and his characters are the "backbone" of the film.
"Dhoom 3 is being scripted. Dhoom is nothing without Uday and my character. We are the backbone of the film," he adds.

The actor has just returned from Greece, where he was shooting for "Game". The action scenes in "Game" were the opposite of the ones in "Raavan". While Abhishek's character had to survive on his instincts in the jungles in "Raavan", he has performed some slick action stunts for "Game".

After shooting for Mani Ratnam's "Raavan", Ashutosh Gowariker's "Khelenge Hum Jee Jaan Se" and Abhinay Deo's "Game", which are all action movies, Abhishek has now taken a concious decision to move away from the gruelling back-breaking action for a while.
